Warning: I'm not a happy person today. I'm negative & annoyed. Why? WHY?!?! Because I have a sick child AGAIN. Every two weeks I've had a sick child. Not the same child, but a sick child. My girls are kind enough to rotate. Paula sick week 1, Shawna sick week 3, Paula sick week 5, Shawna sick week 7 and so on and so on and so on. All. Year. Long. With different illnesses no less but always with a fever. Paula appears to get the germ first, then shares it with her sister. This is the ONLY time they ever share. One year they did get the stomach flu at the same time. That was fun.
Not.
People, I work full-time. Read that again. Full-time!!! How many days off do you think I get a year? Even if I had endless days off, which I don't, I do not like to spend my days home with a sick child. And the worst? A child who is border-line sick. You know how that goes. They're too sick to go to school but not sick enough to be a zombie in front of the TV so instead they demand your time, energy & entertainment.
Totally annoying. ANNOYING.

We be ill'n
Shawna is sick again. She woke up Wednesday with a fever of 102.7 F but no other symptoms until today. Today she's coughing, sneezing, a major snot production company and still has a low fever. I brought her to Kathy's house today (sister in law) so I could come to work. Now that I'm not allowed to work from home (stupid new rule w/my new manager) I need to reserve as many PTO days as possible for my vacation to Cabo and all the company shut downs they have planned. Plus, when you give Shawna cold meds she's pretty much fine. Tomorrow I'm not sure what we'll do. I told Todd it's his turn to stay home. Kathy can't watch Shawna tomorrow. I'm basically trying to utilize my village.
Switching gears. I've taken 2 life insurance classes so far for my new part-time job. They're long (4 hours) with a total of 8 classes. The teacher, the Chad Meister (what he calls himself), is entertaining us (32 students) so it's not too bad. These are California regulated classes that you must take to get certified. Once certified I can schedule the exam in San Francisco. I have to present the certification at the time of the exam. These classes and the test are all free btw. The company I'm working for pays for it all. Sweet!
That's all for today.

Happy Thursday
Shawna came down with a fever of 102 on Tuesday so she stayed home from school yesterday. Mostly she was fine and annoyed me all day. I sent her to school today and hope she makes it thru w/out any trips to the office where we get a phone call to pick her up.
I have my follow-up mammogram today at 1pm. I'm nervous. I have butterflies in my stomach. My gut is telling me that there is something there and it's not benign. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think I am. I know I should be thinking positive thoughts and all that but I'm not. In fact, on the way to school I was thinking about if I died. I realize there is a very slight chance of that happening even if I am diagnosed with breast cancer, but the mom in me worries about leaving my children. We have plenty of life insurance on me. In fact, so much so that we could pay off our mortgage. That's no small feat here in California where housing prices are insanely high. Financially Todd and the girls would be fine. They would also get my social security check each month. We have great families and friends and an awesome church and school community who would be there for them.
Since I believe in life after death, reincarnation, spirits and souls I'm not afraid of dying, I'm just afraid of leaving my girls. But then I also think there is already a plan for me and them so whatever happens is part of the pre-conceived plan that we all chose before taking our bodies. In a way that makes me feel better.
Of course, all of this worrying could be unnecessary after what we learn today so I'll stop my crazy talk for now. I'll post the results of the appointment later today so stay tuned.
Oh, and when I walked into my building today the front desk gal said something she's never said to me before which was "Happy Thursday". It made me laugh. I'm not feeling happy today yet.

Paula has croup. Again. She woke up at 3:30 am not being able to breath well, and had that seal cough. I took her outside to help open her airway. I'd even put her to bed with a humidifier but she still got the croup.
She's at home today with my mom and Shawna. They were planning on going to an indoor swimming pool that has a slide and lazy river. Todd is taking her to the doctor at 3:30 pm. She's been coughing for a few weeks but nothing major. My mom says it's allergies but I don't think so.
I brought her to bed with me since Todd was getting up to go to work at that ungodly hour. We slept in and were laying there talking.
Paula: Mommy, some day I want to go to a Hannah Montana concert. (she has the HM concert recorded for 3D and has watched it for 2 days).
Me: Okay.
Paula: And see the Jonas brothers too (smiles at me as she says it. She has a major crush on all of them. Shawna's boyfriend is Shane)
Me: Oh, okay.
Paula: And I want to sit right in the front. Because Hannah Montana does touch your hand when she's on stage.
Me: Really? Cool.
Paula. Yeah.
pause
Paula: Mommy, I'm different from everyone in my family.
Me: How so?
Paula: I don't like to eat many kinds of foods, but you and Daddy and Shawna eat everything.
I do like broccoli and chicken now. And I ate eggs and liked them.
Me: That's right. See, as you get older you like more foods.
Paula: I like to touch my thumb to my nails and rub them. (shows me). If I do it to this one I have to do it to another one because it has to be even. I like things to be even.
Me: Yes I know.
Paula: There is one thing you do that no one else does. (gets quiet) Getting mad. You were really mad last night. You should have heard yourself.
Me: I know. I got really frustrated. I'm sorry. (She and Shawna were in major hyper mode out of no where at 8pm and were behaving as if they'd just downed a whole box of sugar, running, screaming, jumping on the furniture. I'm saying to my mom "Why are they so fucking hyper?!". Her: I don't know
Todd: Makes no sound from inside the computer room.
Later he goes in there and riles them up more by carrying them around on one arm.
Me: I start yelling at them to be quiet, sit down, calm down. IT'S BED TIME!
Paula: If we go into the small TV room we're calmer because there is less furniture to jump on.
Me: Really. Is that why?
Paula: Uh huh. And then we can watch the Hannah Montana concert. But we need new 3D glasses because the ones we have are terrible and don't stay on. Plus Rosie tries to chew them. We need to get the plastic kinds.
Me: Okay. Hey, I think Grandma is downstairs. Do you want to go see? I need to shower.
Her: Okay!!!!! (jumps up out of bed and heads out the door).
I love our little talks.

Be careful what you wish for
On Thursday last week Paula woke up at 6am crying saying she didn't feel good. 15 minutes she vomited in my toilet. Stomach flu. As I'm standing next to her holding her hair She says "I changed my mind. I like summer school. I want to go to summer school." Why is she saying this? Because the night before in bed she said she hated summer school and was never going there again. In her young mind, she caught the flu as a direct result from what she said. So sad and cute at the same time.

Adults Only
What's been going on?
1. I'm feeling much better. I'm still on antibiotics but they didn't have to "clean out" my sinus'. I am back to work as of yesterday (Monday). I saw the ENT on Friday and he did another probe up my nose. I'm all clear in the upper sinus'. I'm still draining and could relapse but I'm hoping I don't. My implants also look good. I saw the periodontist on Thursday who wants to see me again in 2 months.
2. Friday night we had a fire in our hills. At night it seemed much closer than it was so we got our important papers and things together in case in the middle of the night they said to evacuate. We didn't even let the kids know there was a fire or Paula especially would have been panicky and very upset.
I made Todd prepare the trailer for easy hookup. Normally it can take him 45 minutes to get it ready so he did some set up so in case he needed to hook up the truck we could leave faster. My mom was there to keep him on track. He didn't think all our preparation was necessary and kept saying so, but I didn't want to risk it. By morning the fire was out so he was right. Still...you can't be too prepared for that! We had ashes all over our cars, house etc. Even in our computer room where we'd left the window open.
3. Saturday afternoon my mom drove Paula to her house for the week. Already I've talked to her each day and she's having a grand time. Yesterday they swam in the pool at the club and she met a little girl who might be there again today. Too cute.
That night Shawna had a sleep over at Tyler's house which she LOVED.
4. Saturday night we had an adults only party at our friends the Coulthards, one of our school/softball families who we've camped with and adore. There were 8 of us. We had so much fun. For awhile the ladies chatted together and the men chatted together, then after dinner we all hung out around his backyard bar. They have the best backyard set up for summer parties. I laughed so hard my sides ached from their stories about Paula and Shawna during softball practices. I never make the practices since I'm at work so it was fun to hear what my kids do. We definitely need to do that again. Below is a picture of us all.
Left to Right: Danielle (married to Sam), Patty (married to Brett), Me, Johna (married to Steve), Todd, Brett, Sam, Steve.

5. Tonight starts swim lessons for the girls, although only Shawna is here this week. She's excited since she's been asking me for a year when do they get to go back to swimming. It's hecka expensive for the place I like to take them which is why I didn't sign them up for an entire year. But Shawna needs to learn her strokes and Paula hasn't graduated yet from the school so it's time.
That's it for the past few days. Busy busy as always.

Crab Feed Mania
Yesterday Paula got sent home from school at lunch time for coughing, heavy runny nose and laying her head on her desk. Poor thing. Once home she ate her hot lunch which consisted of a bean burrito, spanish rice, watermellon and a cookie. She ate great. Then I put her down for a nap a little after 1pm. She woke up at 4pm. She was tuckered. She had a hard time falling asleep last night but once I put her in my room with the sleeping bag at 10:30pm (which is when I finally went to bed) she crashed. Getting up was tough today but she got to wear free dress so she was happy. They turn in their map project at school. She and her dad (mostly her dad) did this project and I wanted her to be there today to turn it in. She didn't cough or have a runny nose today at all so hopefully she makes it thru the day.
Shawna woke up this morning and the first thing she said all sleepily was "3 more days till my birthday". So cute. I need to order cupcakes for her class on Friday. There are 18 kids and 6 teachers. Plus I need to bring juice. Then I need to order her cake and buy all the stuff for her party on Sunday. She's having a princess party but she's also added she'd like Hello Kitty. Her cake could say "Hello Kitty Princess Shawna" she said. haha
There are a ton of crab feeds going on now thru March for fundraising activities thru schools in the area. My neighbors went last Saturday to one and had a blast so they want to go to another one. Our school has a huge one with an auction (silent and live) every year. My first time going was last year. You have to request a full table (8 people) otherwise they just stick you anywhere. We're trying to make a table of 16 right now. I'll be working on that today since ticket sales go on sale Sunday and normally sell in 3 days!
I think that's it. I'm off to earn my keep.
